Frequently
Asked
Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Solar Gard window film, PPF, ceramic coating and Shamil Trading's services across the UAE.

Window Tinting

Tinting questions.

Is window tinting legal in the UAE?+
Yes. The RTA sets minimum visible light transmission (VLT) at 50% for front windshields and 30% for front side windows. Rear windows and rear windshield have no restriction. Every Shamil installation is RTA-compliant and includes a written compliance certificate.
How long does window tinting take?+
A standard sedan takes 1.5–3 hours. SUVs take 3–4 hours. We recommend leaving the car for the full day to allow proper adhesion and edge sealing. Avoid lowering windows for 3–5 days after installation.
What is the difference between Quantum and HP tint?+
Quantum is Solar Gard's premium nano-ceramic series — it uses ceramic particles rather than metallic layers, giving it superior heat rejection (up to 85%), zero signal interference and the best optical clarity. HP (High Performance) uses a multi-layer metallic construction — excellent heat rejection at a lower price but may marginally affect GPS in older vehicles. For UAE conditions, we recommend Quantum for any vehicle used daily.
How much does window tinting cost in Sharjah?+
Entry-level Galaxie film for a standard sedan starts at AED 299. Quantum nano-ceramic full-car tint starts at AED 699–999 for sedans and from AED 1,100 for SUVs. Prices vary by vehicle size, film series and glass count. Contact us for an exact quote.
Paint Protection Film

PPF questions.

What is PPF and does my car need it?+
PPF (Paint Protection Film) is a clear self-healing polyurethane film applied to painted surfaces. It absorbs rock chips, sand abrasion, scratch marks and insect acids that would permanently damage your paint. We recommend it for any vehicle regularly driven on UAE highways — gravel trucks and sand-carrying vehicles are common on UAE roads and generate constant paint hazards.
How long does Clearshield Pro PPF last?+
Clearshield Pro PPF carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty for full-front and full-body coverage, and a lifetime warranty option on select packages. The film does not yellow in UV and maintains optical clarity for the warranty period when properly maintained.
Can I wash my car normally after PPF?+
Yes — after a 7-day cure period avoid high-pressure water on edges. After full cure, PPF can be washed normally including touchless automatic washes. Avoid harsh chemical degreasers on edges. We recommend hand washing or foam cannon for best long-term results.
Ceramic Coating

Coating questions.

What's the difference between ceramic coating and PPF?+
PPF is a physical film that absorbs impacts — chips, scratches, abrasion. Ceramic coating is a liquid nano-polymer that bonds to the clear coat, adding gloss, chemical resistance and a hydrophobic surface that shrugs off water, dust and grime. Many clients combine both — PPF on high-impact panels (front bumper, bonnet, mirrors) and ceramic coating over the full vehicle for gloss and easy maintenance.
How long does ceramic coating last?+
Our coating packages range from 2-year to 5-year+ durability depending on the product tier. Longevity depends on wash habits, parking (shaded vs direct sun) and road conditions. A properly maintained coating keeps its hydrophobic beading and gloss for the full warranty period.
Does my car need paint correction before coating?+
Yes, for best results. Ceramic coating seals in whatever condition the paint is in — swirl marks, light scratches and oxidation will still be visible under the coating. We include a decontamination wash and machine polish stage before every coating application to correct the surface first.
Car Polish & Interior Detailing

Detailing questions.

What's included in a full detailing package?+
A full detail covers exterior machine polish and paint correction, engine bay clean, wheel and arch decontamination, plus interior deep clean — vacuum, steam cleaning of fabric and carpet, leather cleaning and conditioning, dashboard and trim dressing, and glass polish inside and out.
Can polishing remove deep scratches?+
Machine polishing removes swirl marks, light-to-moderate scratches and oxidation that sit within the clear coat. Deeper scratches that have gone through the clear coat into the base colour will need touch-up or a respray — we'll assess and advise honestly during inspection rather than over-polishing and thinning your clear coat.
How often should I book interior detailing?+
For daily-driven vehicles in the UAE — with sand, dust and UV exposure — we recommend a full interior detail every 3–4 months and a quick maintenance clean monthly. Leather seats benefit from conditioning every 2–3 months to prevent cracking in the heat.
Architectural Films

Building film questions.

Will solar control film reduce my DEWA bill?+
Yes — measurably. Independent ASHRAE-certified energy modelling on UAE buildings consistently shows 28–34% HVAC load reduction on treated south and west-facing glazing. The film pays back its installation cost through DEWA savings in 3–7 years depending on glazing area and usage. We provide a free energy model with every commercial quote.
Can film be applied to double-glazed windows?+
Yes, with care. Film applied to the inner surface of double-glazed units is standard practice. We do not recommend external application on double-glazed units as heat build-up can stress the seal — we advise on the correct application side for your specific window type during the site survey.
How long does architectural film installation take?+
A standard villa (6–8 windows) takes half a day. Large commercial projects are scheduled room-by-room to minimise disruption. We work out of hours for occupied commercial premises. The film reaches full adhesion within 30 days — during this period minor haze or bubbles are normal and will clear.
