What VLT is legal for each window, what gets fined, and how Shamil ensures every installation is RTA-compliant.
Visible Light Transmission (VLT) is the percentage of visible light that passes through a window film. A 50% VLT film allows 50% of visible light through — the higher the number, the lighter the film. UAE law sets minimum VLT thresholds to ensure drivers maintain adequate visibility and police can see into vehicles.
Front windshield: minimum 50% VLT. Front side windows (driver and front passenger): minimum 30% VLT. Rear side windows: no restriction. Rear windshield: no restriction. These limits are set by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and enforced across all Emirates.
During periodic vehicle inspection (Muroor/RTA), excessively dark tint will fail the inspection. Police may also issue a fine on-road. The film must be removed and the windows re-tested before the vehicle can be re-registered. Fines range from AED 500 to AED 1,000 depending on the Emirate.
Every Shamil installation uses factory-measured Solar Gard film with documented VLT values. After installation we test the actual installed VLT with a calibrated light meter and issue a written compliance certificate. This certificate is your documentation if questioned at an inspection centre or roadside checkpoint.
